Pair of Pitchers Drawing Trade Interest For Miami Marlins

According to Ken Rosenthal of 'The Athletic,' both Edward Cabrera and Trevor Rogers are garnering interest on the trade market.

A pair of Miami Marlins pitchers are generating trade interest this offseason, according to Ken Rosenthal of 'The Athletic.'

Left-handers Jesús Luzardo and Braxton Garrett almost certainly are off-limits, but teams are interested in righty Edward Cabrera and lefty Trevor Rogers, according to sources briefed on the Marlins’ conversations.

Rosenthal also says that there's no indication that the team is willing to trade either, but teams can certainly ask at this time of year.

The 25-year-old Cabrera is under team control through 2028 and owns a lifetime 13-14 record with a 4.01 ERA. Armed with electric stuff, he went 7-7 with a 4.24 this past season. He struck out 118 batters in 99.2 innings.

As for Rogers, he's 26-years-old and under contract through 2026. He only pitched in four games this past year, striking out 19 batters in 18 innings. He made 23 starts in 2022 and 25 in 2021 - making the All-Star team that year.

Lifetime, he's 13-23 with a 4.12 ERA.

While both players would net a promising return, the Marlins do have to weary of their own pitching shortages. While it may seem like the team has excess, they have to cover for former Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara, who is out for the year with Tommy John surgery.

Also, young flamethrower Eury Perez is likely to be on an innings limit in 2024, so having extra arms around to protect him is a good thing.

The Marlins went 84-78 last year and earned a wild card berth in the playoffs.
