New York Mets Reportedly Calling Up Pitcher José Buttó to Make Start Sunday

In this story:
The New York Mets are planning on recalling José Buttó to start Sunday's game against the Kansas City Royals, according to The New York Post's Mike Puma.
The 26-year-old right-handed pitcher is currently with Triple-A Syracuse. It remains to be seen which corresponding move the Mets would make in order to free up space for Buttó on the big league roster.
Buttó was optioned to Triple-A at the tail end of Spring Training, despite the fact that he went 1-0 with a 0.90 ERA, 1.100 WHIP and nine strikeouts across 10.0 innings in the Grapefruit League. Because of the numerous injuries to the Mets' rotation, as well as their early string of rain-outs and double headers, Buttó was able to rejoin the big league roster for an emergency start against the Detroit Tigers on April 4.
That day, Buttó tossed 6.0 innings of one-run ball. He allowed three hits and three walks while recording six strikeouts, powering New York to its first win of the season in the process.
Now, Buttó is eligible to earn a full-time roster spot, and it appears as if the Mets are going to give it to him.
Buttó made his MLB debut in 2022, allowing seven runs in 4.0 innings. He returned to the big leagues in 2023 with nine more appearances, seven of which were starts, going 1-4 with a 3.64 ERA, 1.333 WHIP, 8.1 strikeouts per nine innings and a 0.8 WAR.
In one Triple-A start earlier this season, Buttó allowed two earned runs in 5.0 innings of work. In his last seven professional starts, the righty has a 3.08 ERA and a 1.181 WHIP.
First pitch for Sunday's showdown at Citi Field is scheduled for 1:40 p.m. ET.
