Photos of a Flooded Dodger Stadium Go Viral in Wake of Hurricane Hilary

Dodger Stadium was one of the landmarks ravaged by Hurricane Hilary over the weekend, leaving the ballpark and its parking lot severely flooded.

Hurricane Hilary may have been downgraded to a tropical storm by the time it hit Los Angeles on Sunday, but it still managed to cause some serious damage.

Dodger Stadium was one of the city's landmarks that appeared to get hit the hardest, as photos of the Los Angeles Dodgers' home ballpark and its flooded parking lot went viral on social media Sunday. Sitting atop the Chavez Ravine in the Elysian Park neighborhood just north of Downtown Los Angeles, the entire area surrounding the stadium was filled with standing water.

Hilary unexpectedly sat directly over Dodger Stadium on Sunday night, UCLA climate scientist Daniel Swain told the Los Angeles Times. A record-breaking 2.3 inches of rain came through with the storm, which has since moved past Southern California and been downgraded again to a post-tropical cyclone.

A 5.1 magnitude earthquake also originated in Ojai on Sunday afternoon, roughly 60 miles northwest of Dodger Stadium.

The viral photos were captured by Los Angeles Dodgers Aerial Photography.

Los Angeles was initially scheduled to close out its three-game series with the Miami Marlins on Sunday, but MLB moved the game up to Saturday. The Dodgers won both games of the last-minute double-header by scores of 3-1, improving to 76-47 on the season.

The first-place Dodgers don't have another home game scheduled until Aug. 28 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Until then, they will visit the Cleveland Guardians and Boston Red Sox for back-to-back three-game road series.

The K-pop girl group BLACKPINK is scheduled to have a concert at Dodger Stadium on Aug. 26.

UPDATE – Aug. 21, 2:49 p.m. ET

The team released updated photos of Dodger Stadium from Monday morning, showing that the parking lot had dried out and the field remained in normal condition.

Many outlets and fans have theorized that the parking lot only appeared to be flooded as a result of reflections.
