Umpire Angel Hernandez Sets Dubious Record After Another Series of Horrible Calls

Umpire Angel Hernandez went viral yet again for a series of missed calls in Friday's game between the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers. This is unfortunately a trend for the veteran umpire, who also set a bad record with the performance.

Just a few days after going viral for a poor call, umpire Angel Hernandez went viral again on Friday night for a series of missed calls in the game between the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers.

With the Rangers up 8-1, rookie Wyatt Langford was at the plate with the bases loaded. Hernandez punched Langford out on strikes after calling all three pitches that were well off the plate as strikes.

You can see the pitches here, and you can see that Hernandez made some unfortunate history, according to Umpire Auditor on social media:

** NEW UMPIRE AUDITOR RECORD **

Umpire Angel Hernandez rang up Wyatt Langford on three consecutive pitches out of the zone.

The strikeout pitch missed outside by 6.78 inches.

This was the largest miss on a called strikeout in Umpire Auditor history.

The Rangers ended up winning the game (although it was close at 12-8), so the calls didn't affect the outcome, but still, those are egregious misses from Hernandez.

This has become a trend for Hernandez over the last few years, who routinely misses calls and gets into it with players and managers. He was the lowest graded umpire in baseball last season.

He threw out St. Louis Cardinals' pitcher Lance Lynn in a spring training game just a few weeks ago.

The Rangers and Astros will play each other again on Saturday afternoon with the first pitch coming at 4:05 p.m. ET. Left-hander Andrew Heaney (0-2, 7.56 ERA) will pitch against the red-hot Ronel Blanco (2-0, 0.00 ERA).
