Woman Who Accused Former Cy Young Trevor Bauer of Sexual Assault Facing Fraud Charges

Trevor Bauer, who has not pitched in MLB since he suited up for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2021, was allegedly the target of a felony fraud scheme in Arizona.

One of the women who accused former NL Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer of sexual assault has been charged on multiple counts of fraud.

A Grand Jury in Maricopa County, Arizona, charged Darcy Adanna Esemon in March for allegedly obtaining benefits from Bauer and another man named Marco Bresciani by means of fraudulent pretenses, which is a Class 2 felony. Esemon is also facing Class 4 felony charges for extorting Bresciani.

In 2023, Esemon filed a lawsuit accusing Bauer of raping her during an encounter in December 2020. She claimed to be pregnant and supposedly asked Bauer for $3.6 million to cover an abortion and emotional distress.

Bauer countersued and claimed his sexual relationship with Esemon was consensual. He had allegedly paid Esemon $8,761 for abortion-related costs.

Now, Bauer is claiming that Esemon never got pregnant.

"Her M.O. is clear: Lie to men to get their money," Bauer said in a reaction video he posted Tuesday. "Extort them if she must. When they refuse to pay, stop paying, or stop giving her what she wants, go to the police, accuse them of sexual assault, and file a civil suit against them to retaliate."

Esemon could face 3-to-12.5 years in jail for defrauding Bauer and Bresciani, in addition to 1-to-3.75 years for the second charge related only to Bresciani.

Bauer and one of his other accusers settled their case in October without any admission of guilt or money changing hands on either side. There are two other women who have accused Bauer of sexual assault.

The 33-year-old right-hander hasn't pitched in an MLB game since 2021, when he was a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was fresh off signing a three-year, $102 million contract with the club.

Bauer was suspended for the second half of that season, as well as all of 2022, as the accusations went public. He was reinstated at the start of 2023, but wound up playing in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball after the Dodgers cut ties with him.

Although he made a few appearances against MLB teams in Spring Training, Bauer has yet to receive an offer from a big league club this season. He made his debut in the Mexican League on Monday, allowing four earned runs and seven hits in 3.2 innings.

Bauer was peaking right before he was exiled by the league, going 36-28 with a 3.07 ERA, 1.095 WHIP, 11.2 strikeouts per nine innings and a 13.5 WAR from 2018 to 2021. He won the NL Cy Young with the Cincinnati Reds in the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign, two years after finishing sixth in AL Cy Young voting as a member of the Cleveland Indians.

During his time in Japan, Bauer went 11-4 with a 2.59 ERA, 1.130 WHIP and 9.2 strikeouts per nine innings.
