The Pittsburgh Pirates will be without infielder Jared Triolo for Monday's game against the Washington Nationals.

Triolo fouled a ball off his foot against the Miami Marlins over the weekend. He started all four contests, with the Pirates winning each and every one of them.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Andrew Destin, Triolo is feeling "a lot better" and his absence from the starting lineup Monday is precautionary.

Triolo got most of his work in at third base during his rookie season in 2023, filling in at the position when Ke'Bryan Hayes was banged up. He made 35 starts in the hot corner, compared to 10 at second and six at first.

All four of Triolo's starts thus far in 2024 have been at second, however. He also moved over to first base for the 10th inning of Sunday's series finale, so he has been on the field for all 40 innings the Pirates have played on defense this season. He made one error on Opening Day, but has been otherwise clean in his 29 other chances.

Triolo was ranked as the No. 18 prospect in Pittsburgh's farm system entering 2023, four years after he was selected in the second round of the 2019 MLB Draft. Across 54 big league appearances, Triolo hit .298 with three home runs, 21 RBI, six stolen bases, a .785 OPS and a 2.1 WAR.

The 26-year-old went 5-for-17 with two RBI, three walks and four strikeouts in the season-opening series against the Marlins this past weekend.

First pitch for the Pirates' game against the Nationals is set for 4:05 p.m. ET. Alika Williams is starting at second and batting ninth with Triolo out.
