John McCarthy's Brutally Honest Take On Jake Paul's Fighter Union

Former renowned MMA referee and current Bellator color commentator "Big" John McCarthy has shared his take on Jake Paul's fighter union.
Paul has long been outspoken about the treatment of MMA fighters under the UFC banner. He even made a bet with UFC Hall of Famer Anderson Silva, which led to "The Spider" joining Paul in his efforts to create a fighter union.
During a recent interview with Drake Riggs of MMAMania.com, Paul admitted that pulling off a union is "damn near impossible" to figure out. With that said, "The Problem Child" feels it will be a three or four-year process.

On an episode of the "WEIGHING IN" podcast, John McCarthy discussed Paul hitting a snag with creating a fighter union.
"The biggest problem that I think Jake Paul is running into, and I appreciate the fact that he's trying to do it, but it's not as easy," McCarthy said. "We've said, that's not an easy thing to do. There's too many giant boulders that you're gonna have to figure out a way to move to get this done."
McCarthy went on to share that Josh Thomson's belief has always been that if you're a prizefighter, you have to be selfish. McCarthy believes there are a lot of fighters who will be too stubborn to think of the greater good that a union would do.
"Big" John also noted that some big stars are required in order for the union to have any legs.
"You need quite a few of the big names," McCarthy said. "If you had a Conor McGregor, huge name within the sport, that would have an impact in making the union. If you had a Jon Jones, that would have a huge impact, but you need those top people. You need the ones that have some semblance of power and some semblance of power in the UFC."
