Ian Machado Garry picked up the biggest win of his career at UFC Charlotte, and he already has his next opponent in mind to continue rising through the welterweight rankings.

“The Future” took on #15-ranked Daniel Rodriguez on the main card of UFC Charlotte, and on a night filled with great finishes the Irishman impressed by essentially calling his shot before the fight even started. Garry had confidently predicted that his right kick would get the job done against Rodriguez, and just over halfway through the opening round the 25-year-old dropped “D-Rod” before swarming him with punches to close things out.

Garry will presumably take Rodriguez’s spot in the UFC’s welterweight rankings come next week, and immediately after the TKO victory the Irishman called for a matchup with Neil Magny for his next fight.

Currently ranked as the UFC’s #11 welterweight contender, Magny has been a staple at the top of the division throughout his time in the promotion. The 35-year-old put together three-straight wins in 2020, but he's struggled for consistency since then and has alternated wins and losses across his last six fights.

The last victory for “The Haitian Sensation” also came against Rodriguez, but his most recent outing at UFC 283 ended in a submission loss to former welterweight title challenger Gilbert Burns in the first round.

A matchup with Magny certainly seems like a logical step up in competition for Garry, who has quickly established himself as a rising star in the UFC. The 25-year-old has certainly helped raise his profile by constantly mentioning his countryman Conor McGregor, but “The Future” has also proved that he could be a future title challenger by adding five wins to his undefeated record since joining the UFC in 2021.
