Athlete of the Week: Kassie Mowry Continues to Extend Her Lead in the World Standings

Kassie Mowry continues to shatter the expecations set before her by the rodeo industry. With each run she makes she cements herself further into history as not only one of the greatest barrel racers of all time but also one of the greatest horsewomen.
Mowry On A Roll
The last two weeks have been packed with impressive performances from Mowry and her equine athletes, adding more fantastic runs to an already legendary barrel racing career.
For the second year in a row the reining world champion claimed the RodeoHOUSTON championship and just last weekend she added another repeat title to her name with a win on Force The Goodbye aka "Jarvis" at Rodeo Austin. Earlier in the season she also won the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Championship.
On Sunday afternoon, Mowry placed third in the qualifying round of the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo, setting her up for the opportunity to add another "Texas Swing" rodeo win to her growing list of accomplishments.

Success at Rodeo Austin
After winning Rodeo Austin in 2024, Mowry was back to claim another title. Round 1 of Rodeo Austin saw Mowry and her big grey horse CP He Will Be Epic, also known as "Will", take eleventh place with a time of 14.49 seconds, securing Mowry's spot to the semi-finals round.
During the semi-finals, Mowry made a horse change from "Will" to Force The Goodbye aka "Jarvis". With "Jarvis" and Mowry as the last team to run in the semi-finals, Austin certainly left the best for last. They exited the arena with a time of 14.20 to split the semi-finals win with LaTricia Duke.
Mowry and "Jarvis" capitalized on the opportunity to have top of the ground, starting the Rodeo Austin finals off fast with a 14.19-second run. That run held the top spot throughout the remaining seven barrel racers to clinch Mowry's second Rodeo Austin win.
A Potential Record Breaking Year
As of March 31, Mowry has been to seven rodeos. During those rodeos, she has already amassed $126,217.99. That is $21,000 more than what she had earned this same time last year. She has put herself in a great postion to potentially head to her seventh NFR in the number one spot once again.
With her nearly $60,000 lead in the world standings, it will be exciting to watch Mowry and her team throughout the rest of the season as they potentially challenge a few records along the way.
