Granite Hills stuns Carlsbad 46-45, ends Julian Sayin's prep career with 2-point conversion in OT

Pablo Jackson scores on swinging gate 2-point conversion run to give the Eagles stunning San Diego Section Open Division semifinal win

Pablo Jackson took an inside handoff off a swinging gate formation for a two-point conversion, giving Granite Hills a stunning 46-45 overtime win at Carlsbad in a San Diego Section Open Division semifinal victory on Thursday night.

Carlsbad (10-1), ranked seventh in California, had taken a 45-38 on the first possession of overtime on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Julian Sayin to Griffin Rosenbloom.

Granite Hills (11-0) converted a fourth-down play to get a first down, then on 4th-and-goal from the 7 scored on a touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Zachary Benitez to Josh Zander. Instead of kicking an extra point to send the game into a second overtime, the Eagles, the defending state Division 2-A champion, went for the victory.

Jackson took the inside pitch (technically a pass), swept right and easily made it into the end zone, sending his team into a wild celebration. The Eagles will play Friday's Helix at Lincoln winner for the Open Division title.

The loss ended the illustrious career of Sayin, the nation's top-rated quarterback recruit who is headed to Alabama. He threw three touchdown passes.

Much more on this game later
