Will Santa Margarita slay a third national power this week when it hosts top-ranked St. John Bosco?

It was a tough week for the California's elete last week, particularly in the San Diego Section.

Previous No. 16 Cathedral Catholic dropped out of the rankings completely after a second straight loss, 14-7 to unranked Point Loma., while Mission Hills (6-1) lost 31-17 to unbeaten Carlsbad, which immediately jumped to No. 17 in the rankings.

The Trinity League did its usual job of beating one another up, with one noteworthy score: Santa Margarita 7, Mater Dei 6. The Monarchs losing to a team other than St. John Bosco is one thing, but for only 13 points to be scored between two high-powered offenses was stunning.

Santa Margarita, which already defeated No. 3 Corona Centennial this season, now tries the trifecta of Mt. Rushmore of high school programs when it hosts St. John Bosco on Friday.

New rankings will be released every Monday or Tuesday throughout the season.
