PUYALLUP — Aaliyah Alexander made Union pay at the perfect time.

Down seven, Todd Beamer exploded out of the halftime break on Alexander's lead and held off the Titans to claim the 4A West-Central Bi-District championship on Saturday afternoon at Puyallup High School.

Eight of Alexander's 22 points came in the third quarter, which she insists is no accident.

"When we got into the locker room (at halftime), coaches really got on us about taking smart shots, making the defense work," Alexander said. "Once we got moving the ball around, driving to the basket, that's when we were able to come back."

Beamer (23-2) is the No. 2 team in the WIAA's RPI rankings, used to seed the state tournament, as of Saturday night. Union (19-5) slid to No. 7 ahead of the bracket release on Sunday.
