2027 NBA Draft: Louisville Adds Another Intriguing Piece Ahead of 2026-27

The college basketball landscape continues to change just a few months before the 2026-27 campaign kicks off.

After a court ruling stated that members of the 2022 high school recruiting class are eligible for a fifth season of college athletics, a handful of veteran college basketball players have already announced their return to the NCAA.

Darrion Williams, who most recently played for NC State, signed with Texas Tech as a transfer after completing his fourth season in 2025-26. Other players like Duke Brennan and Keyshawn Hall, who played in the 2026 NBA Summer League, are also planning to return to college basketball, according to reports.

Recently, another player who participated in the Summer League announced that he will also play in the NCAA again.

After four seasons at North Carolina, Pete Thamel reported on Wednesday, Aug. 12, that veteran guard Seth Trimble will transfer to Louisville.

Trimble went undrafted in the 2026 NBA Draft before playing with the Washington Wizards' Summer League team. In five games, Trimble averaged 10.8 points, four rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 42.5% from the field and 26.7% from 3-point range.

As a senior at North Carolina, the Tar Heels' standout tallied 14 points, 3.8 rebounds, three assists and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 47.1% from the field and 28.6% from beyond the arc. Through the first four years of his college career, Trimble appeared in 126 games and made 45 starts.

Now, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound guard heads to Louisville, where he will join a talented Cardinals roster. Louisville features Oregon transfer Jackson Shelstad, Arkansas transfer Karter Knox, Dayton transfer De'Shayne Montgomery, Iowa transfer Álvaro Folgueiras, Kansas transfer Flory Bidunga and five-star incoming freshman Obinna Ekezie Jr., among others.

Trimble joins a Louisville team that should be a competitor in the ACC during the 2026-27 season.

Alongside standout froncourt players Bidunga and Ekezie, two 2027 NBA Draft prospects, the Cardinals also have a solid group of guards that should elevate Pat Kelsey's team to be among the nation's best.

While Trimble wasn't selected in the 2026 draft, another strong season in the ACC could help the former four-star recruit earn a spot in the 2027 class. Trimble likely won't be a first-round pick in the upcoming draft, but a productive year with the Cardinals could lead to the veteran guard being selected in the second round.

Imrpoving as a perimeter shooter would be Trimble's best chance to enter the 2027 NBA Draft conversation.
