Bronny James' 2024 NBA Draft Journey Will be One to Follow

The son of NBA superstar LeBron James has officially declared for the NBA Draft.

Bronny James, the son of NBA superstar and four-time champion LeBron James, has officially entered his name into the 2024 NBA Draft pool while maintaining his college eligibility.

James also entered the transfer portal in order to maintain flexibility following workouts for NBA teams.

Per The Athletic: “The draft is Bronny’s priority if he and Rich Paul, CEO of Klutch Sports Group, feel comfortable with his standing, sources close to Bronny said.”

In late-July of 2023, James suffered cardiac arrest, which was likely caused by a congenital heart defect identified in the initial evaluation, per a family spokesperson. For awhile, it seemed James’ basketball future was in jeopardy following the serious medical emergency. But In late November, James was finally cleared for a full return to basketball.

A former four-star guard, it’s clear that James has NBA potential as a playmaking two-guard, but he saw an up-and-down season with USC, struggling alongside the rest of the team in limited minutes.

James played in 25 games for the Trojans, averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 0.8 steals while shooting 37% overall, 27% from beyond the arc and 68% from the free throw line. He played an average of 19.3 minutes per game.

James’ draft case will be an interesting one to follow. There’s a chance teams could swing on his potential in the second round. But the transfer portal could be a decent backup option if there’s less interest than anticipated on the NBA’s end.
