The 2024 NBA Draft just got a little deeper as Providence guard Devin Carter announced on Wednesday he would officially be declaring for the draft after teasing a potential return to the Friars. Carter is a three-year college player who spent the 2023-24 season averaging 19.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.0 blocks per game.

Carter accomplished that on efficient shooting turning in 47 percent from the floor, 37 percent from beyond the arc and 74 percent at the charity stripe on his way to claiming the Big East Player of the Year Award after being an All-SEC Freshman at South Carolina back in 2022.

The Providence guard ranks in the 84th percentile in overall offense and can get it done in a multitude of ways that will translate to the next level.

For starters, Carter can orchestrate the pick-and-roll with the best of them producing a point per possession in that setting turning the corner downhill to the rim, firing in a pocket pass or even pulling up off the dribble to nail a jumper.

Though, Carter does not need the ball in his hands to make a difference. Shooting 40 percent in catch-and-shoot opportunities, finishing lanes to cut past the defense, working off hand offs or running the floor in transition.

While the Friar guard has found offensive success, one of his biggest NBA selling points is his elite-level motor and defensive chops. There will never be a night off when you are matched up with Carter who will annoy you for 48 minutes.

His ability to frustrate his opponents on that end of the floor, spark transition and sit down to get stops at critical points projects to make him an impact player in the NBA right away.
