Did You Notice?

  • Nick Dunlap, who knocked off wold No. 1 amateur Gordon Sargent during Wednesday's Round of 64, rolled to two more victories on Thursday to reach the quarterfinals of the 123rd U.S. Amateur Championship at Cherry Hills Village, Colo. The sophomore scored a 4-and-2 win over No. 9 seed Connor Jones, of Denver, Colo., and a 5-and-3 win over Bowen Mauss, of Draper, Utah. “My caddie and I have a good game plan for this place, and it’s just to bank on my mid-irons and short irons and go from there,” said Dunlap, the No. 41 seed, who won the Northeast Amateur and the North & South Amateur earlier this summer. In the quarterfinals, Dunlap will face Jackson Koivun, 18, of Chapel Hill, N.C., the No. 32 seed and an incoming freshman at Auburn.
  • Riley Mattingly Parker, former Alabama soccer player who was a part of the Crimson Tide's 2022 College Cup team, was waived Racing Louisville FC of the NWSL.
  • D1 Baseball named Alabama baseball coach Rob Vaughn its No. 1 favorite college baseball hire of the offseason.
  • 2025 catcher Zackary Johnson committed to Alabama baseball. He currently plays for in-state Bob Jones High School.
  • Alabama baseball scheduled two high profile fall scrimmages in Tuscaloosa, one against archrival Auburn and one against Florida State.
  • Alabama gymnastics had 16 athletes selected as WCGA scholastic All-Americans.
