Former Alabama Baseball Coach Inducted into American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame
The Alabama Crimson Tide Baseball program received great news on Wednesday as the American Baseball Coaches Association announced that the program's all-time winningest coach, Jim Wells, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame Class of 2024.
Wells coached at The Capstone from 1995-2009 winning two regular season SEC titles and six SEC Tournament championships. He led Alabama to three of its five appearances in the College World Series and is the program's leader in all-time wins with 625.
"He was the most organized baseball coach I've ever been around," said Andy Phillips, Alabama's all-time leader in homeruns in a June interview.
Wells was honored twice as SEC Coach of the Year during his tenure with the Tide, in 1996 and in 2002.
He will be inducted into the Hall of Fame with nine other former coaches, Cal Bailey (West Virginia State), Danny Hall (Georgia Tech), Pat McQuaid (Nova High School), Jim Morris (University of Miami), Brian O’Connor (Virginia), Tim Pettorini (The College of Wooster), John Vodenlich (Wisconsin-Whitewater), Wayne Welton (Chelsea High School) and Jeff Willis (LSU Eunice).
In order to garner consideration for the Hall of Fame a coach must have served as a head baseball coach for a minimum of 15 years, had active membership with the ABCA for a minimum of 15 years, have made professional and personal contributions to the ABCA, have significantly contributed to the advancement of baseball at the local, national or international level and possess high moral character and ethical standards.
Wells will be inducted during the 80th annual ABCA Convention on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, at the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, Texas.
