Myjai Sanders Expected to Boost NFL Draft Stock at 2022 Senior Bowl

Sanders totaled 2.5 sacks this year but was constantly around the football.

CINCINNATI — There are seven Bearcats showcasing their talents during Senior Bowl week in the coming days and NFL.com likes Myjai Sanders's chances of boosting his draft stock.

The edge rusher is Mel Kiper's seventh-rated defensive end in this year's draft and that's even with his skills being used in a less ideal fashion at Cincinnati.

"Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell told the Move the Sticks Podcast that the Bearcats utilized Sanders in a way that 'might not have been to his exact strengths,'" Chad Reuter wrote. "Requiring him to regularly play the 4i and five-technique spots. Though he acquitted himself well in those situations, Sanders will show scouts in Mobile that he will be a better stand-up rusher at the next level, using his strong get-off after the snap to make plays. Displaying more consistent bend off the edge will also help Sanders make a jump on draft boards."

That explanation from Fickell sheds some light on Sanders's low sack total in 2021 (2.5) compared to his pressure rate. According to PFF, Sanders creates pressure on 23% of his true pass rush sets (pass plays without screens, RPOs, or play-action). That ranks tied for second in the 2022 draft class.

We'll find out how much Sanders boosts his stock when an NFL team turns in its draft card with his name on it this April. You can catch the 2022 Senior Bowl airing on NFL Network at 2:30 p.m. ET on Feb. 5.
