NFL Network Names Ahmad 'Sauce' Gardner Top NFL Rookie Though Four Games

The UC product is shutting down opposing receivers.

CINCINNATI — Most NFL rookies take some time to acclimate to NFL play speed and tendencies. Not New York Jets cornerback Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner.

NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah has Sauce in the No. 1 spot on his NFL rookie rankings a quarter of the way through this season.

"Gardner is already establishing himself as one of the premier players at his position," Jeremiah wrote. "He has an uncanny knack for locating and playing the ball down the field."

The man-coverage maven has been fantastic on an island this year.

Gardner has played 25 man-coverage snaps (20 Press), allowing one reception - for five yards on three targets. His five total pass breakups rank t-fifth among all NFL players.

Sunday brings another chance to impress the league as the Jets battle the Miami Dolphins at 1 p.m. ET on CBS. Fans can watch via fuboTV—start your free trial here.
