Report: Luke Fickell Gets Significant Pay Bump At Wisconsin, Bringing Key Staff Member

The Bearcats 'were willing to get there' with Fickell, but it didn't happen.

CINCINNATI — Luke Fickell's salary at Wisconsin has surfaced.

According to Pete Thamel, Fickell is signing a seven-year deal worth "nearly" $7.9 million per year.

The Bearcats' winningest football coach ever is getting a $2.9 million raise on his contract extension signed this past offseason. UC athletic director John Cunningham did hint on Sunday that the school was willing to match that offer.

"We were always having conversations about moving our program forward anything that we could do. He knew that, that I wanted to invest and I wanted to grow this thing," Cunningham said. "I felt strongly about what it was going to take to get to the Big 12 and be at that level and still do. And so we were willing to get there with him. But it was a family decision and he made that decision."

Thamel also confirmed rumors that Fickell is bringing UC director of sport performance Brady Collins with him to Madison for his next coaching chapter.

"Luke Fickell will bring strength coach Brady Collins with him to Wisconsin," Thamel tweeted. "He’s been Fickell’s most trusted aide since he began at Cincinnati. He helped nine Bearcats develop into NFL Draft picks last season. A key hire, as Wisconsin will be a developmental program."

Collins started his UC tenure in 2017. Watch the video above for more on Fickell's exit.
