Scott Satterfield Highlights All-Around Defense: ‘Best Thing About Our DB Play is Our D-Line’

CINCINNATI — UC football head coach Scott Satterfield discussed the team's secondary on Wednesday as the team gets closer to the end of fall camp at Higher Ground.

Cincinnati's had great early returns with transfer wide receiver additions making plays in Indiana, but cornerbacks like Jordan Young and Sammy Anderson Jr. have made some good impressions as well in front of a stout defensive line.

"The best thing about our DB play is our D-Line," Satterfield said with a smile. "When we do 11-on-11 they are getting after it. They are doing a great job upfront. Don't have to cover as long on the backend."

Young was a dynamo in the spring against lesser competition but Satterfield said he's turned it on more recently after getting off to a slower start compared to March-April.

"It just gives us another tool in the toolbox in the secondary," Satterfield said. "We need that, particularly in the secondary out there at corner. I think Sammy has been playing the best. He's been outstanding out there."

Anderson played 192 coverage snaps last season as he got accustomed to FBS play after just 11 career coverage snaps entering 2022. He and Young can round out a top-30 defense nationally if they play close to their ceiling come September.
