Lipscomb Academy (Tenn.) interior offensive lineman Jan Pyc announced his commitment to Tennessee Tech on March 30, after he was there to watch spring practice.

“I believe that really what led to my commitment to Tennessee Tech was a mix of multiple factors. First of all, Coach Harman (Offensive line coach and run game coordinator Tyler Harman) gave me the real feeling that he cares about his players.

"The first thing that he told me when we talked was that his goal is not only to make us great players but also great men, and then the next factor was that at Tennessee Tech, I will have the possibility to compete with the best and also have a chance to win a national championship.

"The last big point why I also decided to commit to Tennessee Tech is that I believe that it‘s a great surrounding area up in Tennessee, and I want to help make this place better. All in all, those are the important factors that led to my commitment,” Pyc said.

His visit there last week was the thing that sealed the deal for the Golden Eagles. Everything from the campus to the team culture.

“My last visit there was the last straw for me to commit. The moment I got on campus, I knew that that was the place to be. The culture of that school is incredible, and especially the fact that the offensive line room is, and how they all care about each other, and on top of that, how deeply the coaching staff cares about their players.”

Pyc received his offer from the Golden Eagles on March 4, after he spoke with Harman.

“Coach Harman first tried to create a communication base which was hard due to the fact that it was already late in the process but we made it happen and I remember I was at the gym when he then called me and told me that they would like to offer me and that I have the opportunity to get a lot of development at their program and get the chance to be part of an incredible team.

"We have a good relationship. We talk to each other probably once a week, maybe sometimes we miss a week, but we have a lot of regular contact.”

Recapping His Recruitment Process

He had a good 2025 season for the Mustangs and was selected to play in the All-American International Series in Miami.

“I experienced a lot of growth at Lipscomb Academy, gaining a lot of weight and being developed in a great way. Team-wise, I would say our season started late due to transfers out, and we had to find ourselves, but once we found our identity as a team, and I believe even though the playoffs didn’t go as planned, the whole team grew a lot.”

The 6-foot-6, 290-pound Pyc also had offers from Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Tennessee State, Fordham, Wofford, Mercer, Presbyterian, South Dakota, Elon, Gardner-Webb, and Morehead State. That was despite him getting a late start in the recruiting process, due to coming over from overseas.

“All of my offers started coming in very late due to my originally coming from Germany; the TSSAA didn’t allow me to play my junior year, but around the end of 2025-2026, it took off, and I started to get new offers weekly.”
