April Recruiting: Canes, Noles, and Gators Improve Classes

In this story:
For college football fans that live in Florida, there’s been a lot of recruiting news to follow during the month of April.
Since April 1, the combination of Miami, Florida State and Florida have gained 10 total verbal commitments between them. Additionally, four of those players came from inside the state of Florida borders.
Here’s an overview of the recent recruiting events for the Hurricanes, Seminoles and Gators.
Miami Hurricanes
Miami started its way towards its current five commitments with quarterback Judd Anderson out of Gray (Ga.) Jones County on April 7. He had visited Coral Gables for a practice and decided that was the place for him.
One week later, it was wide receiver Chance Robinson from Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Saint Thomas Aquinas, as the Canes beat out teams from across the country to land him.
The past two days saw two more commitments. From Baton Rouge (La.) Southern Lab, defensive back and all-around athlete Dylan Day chose the Canes on April 16. One day later on April 17, it was the latest commitment, as Dania Beach (Fla.) South Broward running back Chris Wheatley-Humphrey made his public declaration to join Mario Cristobal and Miami.
The speedster will be a great addition to an offense that looks to create mismatches with players that possess the ability to make defenders miss in space; that's exactly what Wheatley-Humphrey can do.

Miami Overview: The Canes added a strong-armed quarterback, and three skill position players that have speed and big-play ability. Miami has done a tremendous job of getting players down to Coral Gables for visits, so it was a matter of time before talented prospects began to commit. Overall, Miami upgraded its talent level and did so at positions that needed numbers. The Canes now have five verbal commitments for the class of 2024.
Update - Miami just earned a verbal commitment from offensive lineman Juan Minaya.
Florida State Seminoles
Mike Norvell and his staff have also seen four prospects added this month. On April 3 it was linebacker Jayden Parrish from Delray Beach (Fla.) Atlantic, a sideline-to-sideline linebacker that will Bolster the defensive efforts for the Noles. Next was another speedy player, top-notch wide receiver Lawayne McCoy from Miami (Fla.) Central on April 13. He will bring plenty of speed and shiftiness to Tallhassee.
Speaking of speed, the third FSU commitment came April 15 from do-it-all playmaker BJ Gibson of Rochelle (Ga.) Wilcox County. He’s an underrated talent that can take the top off a defense or weave his way through it.
Finally, just yesterday, FSU gained the verbal commitment of elite tight end Landen Thomas from Moultrie (Ga.) Colquitt County. One of the nation’s top overall recruits, that was a coup for Norvell and the Noles because Thomas had previously committed to the University of Georgia. Not easy to flip in-state prospects away from the Dawgs.

FSU recruiting overview: The four pickups all possessed one overall quality, and that would be speed. Norvell’s offensive vision will certainly continue to involve stressing teams with playmakers in space, while Parrish can help to begin building a defense that needs more overall depth and talent compared to when Norvell took over the program. In total, FSU has reached 11 verbal commitments.
Florida Gators
Florida has earned commitments from two prospects this month that will have a chance to play early in Gainesville, and that’s backed up by each of them having several SEC and Power 5 offers overall, Alabama included. First up was running back Kahnen Daniels from West Point (Miss.) High School.
A natural between the tackles runner, Daniels has shown he will grind out yardage after contact. That’s a running back with the style of play that Florida head coach Billy Napier has preferred during his coaching career.
The other commitment for the Gators came on April 13, as McKinney (Texas) High School safety Xavier Filsaime joined Florida’s recruiting class. He garnered offers from across the nation prior to picking UF. He could play free safety or move down into the box and help with run support.

Florida recruiting overview: Napier and his staff built the Louisiana program by recruiting players that fit their scheme well, and each of the two commitments the Gators picked up this month fit that as well. They are physical players that have the ability to come in and compete for playing time. The Gators now have seven total commitments.
