NEW: Michigan State Adds Texas Wide Receiver To 2024 Class

The Spartans pick up a commitment out of the talent-rich state of Texas...

Just 10 days before the second signing period of the 2024 recruiting cycle, Michigan State football continues to add to its class.

On Sunday, the Spartans received a commitment from three-star Nacogdoches (Texas) prep wide receiver Jaylan Brown. The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder — who also played cornerback in high school — gives MSU a trio of wide receivers in the 2024 class, joining four-star River Rouge (MI) WR Nick Marsh and three-star Cleveland (Ohio) Midpark wideout Austin Clay.

Since Jonathan Smith was hired in late November, Michigan State has mostly filled its 2024 recruiting class with overlooked prospects from talent-rich states. Brown fits that mold, coming in as the No. 1486 overall prospect, No. 182 wide receiver and No. 215 player from the state of Texas in his class. As a senior at Nacogdoches H.S., Brown recorded 55 receptions for 908 yards and 11 touchdowns, and added an interception on defense. During his junior season, Brown had 11 receptions for 201 yards and two touchdowns, and made a bigger impact at cornerback with 25 tackles, three interceptions and a fumble recover.

After the addition of Brown, Michigan State's 2024 recruiting class — ranked No. 45 in the country — has grown to 21 high school prospects, 18 of which signed with the Spartans during the December signing period. Nine of those signees have early-enrolled and are currently participating in winter conditioning with the program. Alongside Brown, the Spartans hope to sign two-star Meridan (Idaho) Mountain View kicker Martin Connington and three-star Portage (Mich.) Northern linebacker Jadyn Walker. Walker was the only verbal commit who did not sign with the Spartans during the December signing period. USC is working hard to flip Walker from MSU.
