Mizzou Football Transfer Portal Updates During Dead Period: The Buzz

In this story:
Though the transfer portal is in the middle of a dead period, pieces don’t stop moving for any team across the country.
That includes the Missouri Tigers.
The Tigers just added the commitment of former Michigan defensive back Elijah Dotson, who should be an immediate contributor for the Tigers. That was arguably the biggest addition so far for the Tigers, who desperately needed help in the secondary.
Two other additions have rolled in since the beginning of the week, being Florida State kicker and punter Brunno Reus and UConn quarterback Nick Evers. Reus may end up as the starting punter, but, at a very minimum, those are two depth pieces.
That’s about the extent of the good news right now for the Tigers. There’s been more strikeouts than home runs in the portal, especially on big-name targets. Players like Alabama’s Qua Russaw and James Smith and Oklahoma State’s Wendell Gregory. Those were the big-money, game-changing players that many Tiger fans were hopeful to land. Consequently, with those three heading elsewhere, Missouri remains thin on its defensive line.
As of now, there are only a few targets who've taken visits that have not committed to a school. That doesn’t mean new targets won’t arise, because it’s likely that they will, but only a few of the original batch of targets remain.
Uncommitted transfer portal targets
Derek Joiner, Houston, C
Samuel Okunlola, Colorado, EDGE
Mason Purham, Emory & Henry, EDGE
Seth Davis, Mississippi State, RB
That’s very clearly not a ton of guys. The Tigers are going to need another running back, a defensive end or two, a defensive tackle or two, another cornerback and maybe another wide receiver. There's more to do in the portal and time is running out, but expect Eli Drinkwitz to remain active in the transfer portal through Jan. 16 and beyond.
