Over the last two recruiting cycles, Notre Dame has made a tremendous impact in the state of Texas. They have already signed, or secured commitments from players like wide receivers Braylon James, Jaden Greathouse and Kaleb Smith, cornerbacks Micah Bell and Leonard Moore, running back Kedren Young and defensive end Loghan Thomas.

The Lone Star State has clearly become a priority for Marcus Freeman and his staff. They hope to continue that momentum into the 2025 recruiting class, with one of the key targets being Cypress (Texas) Cy-Fair defensive end Landon Rink.

Notre Dame initially offered Rink during their Pot of Gold offer event on St. Patrick’s Day. Since then, the program has quickly become a big player for the talented defender.

"Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Notre Dame and Texas are the schools that are standing out most right now,” Rink told Irish Breakdown. "They are each doing a great job.

"My relationship with Notre Dame has been developing really well and I have a great connection with them,” continued Rink. "Coach (Al) Washington and the staff definitely stand out as real genuine people that I would like to play for. I talk to Coach Washington probably about two times a month right now.”

The Irish message has stuck out tremendously to Rink. They have kept it simple. He could be a part of something special.

"Notre Dame is definitely one of my top schools right now,” he said. "Their message is that they want me up there and to play Notre Dame football. They think I would fit really well.”

With summer workouts in full swing, Rink is slowly planning some trips to various schools. His plan is to get out to Notre Dame sometime soon, although he hasn’t finalized that trip yet.

"My recruitment has been going great,” he stated. "I will be going to Texas later this week, as well as Texas A&M and Oklahoma in July.”

When Rink does finalize that trip, it will be his first to the University of Notre Dame. The fact that the staff has made such an early impression on him with not getting to campus yet is a great sign.

Rink is considered a four-star recruit by both Rivals and ESPN. The latter ranking has him rated as the No. 168 overall player and No. 15 strong-side defensive end in the 2025 recruiting class. Rivals has him rated similarly, currently pegging Rink as the No. 173 overall player and No. 13 strong-side defensive end in the class.

The Texas native is already being pursued by several big time programs. Some of his notable offers include the Fighting Irish, Texas, Oklahoma, USC, Penn State, TCU, Nebraska, Baylor and Texas Tech among others.

The 6-2, 250-pound defensive end was a dominant member of the Cy-Fair defense, which finished the year with 10-2 with a 7-0 record in their division. Rink finished the year with 76 total tackles, 18 tackles for loss, five sacks and 30 quarterback hurries. He also forced two fumbles and blocked a kick during the season.
