Notre Dame Recruiting Roundup - August 7th

In this story:
As we live closer and closer to the 2023 college football season kicking off, recruiting is going to get increasingly busy, especially coming out of the dead period. Notre Dame received a massive 2025 commitment this past week, as well as adding two talented players to the board.
Let’s recap yet another busy week in Irish recruiting. It’s setting up to be an eventful end of the Summer.
LATEST RECRUITING NEWS
Here is the latest news in Notre Dame recruiting.
Coming out of last weekend, 2025 Tampa Bay (Fla.) Jesuit running back Justin Thurman was finalizing when to officially commit to the University of Notre Dame. That decision wasn’t much of a surprise with the Irish staff being in a great position with the Florida speedster for some time.
Notre Dame sold their visit to Thurman, stressing the importance of relationships, academics and what the Irish program stands for. That decision was cemented during the “Grill and Chill” recruiting event last weekend.
There were also two new interesting 2025 recruits added to the board for Notre Dame. The first was Overland Park (Kan.) St. Thomas Aquinas defensive lineman Julian “Juju” Marks, who made his first trip to South Bend last weekend.
The second was Naples (Fla.) Lely athlete Jayce Cora, who was offered as a safety by the Irish. The 6-4, 180-pound athlete is rated as a wide receiver by most recruiting platforms, bringing an interesting combination of size, length and athleticism in a raw package.
VISIT RECAPS
Here are important notes from Notre Dame visitors recently.
2025 Bryant (Ark.) High School star running back Daniel Anderson first visited Notre Dame this off-season when he camped. He performed so well that he earned a scholarship offer from the team. This past weekend, Anderson returned to campus and continues to build a very strong relationship with the Irish staff.
Speaking of great relationships, New Rochelle (N.Y.) Iona Prep offensive tackle Rowan Byrne already has the Irish pegged as a top three school for him along with Michigan and Wisconsin. He made the return trip once again to South Bend, coming out even more impressed by the staff and program.
For the first time, Notre Dame received a visit from Newberry (Fla.) High School standout defensive tackle Jarquez Carter. The trip was a success by all accounts. Carter went into that visit intrigued by Notre Dame but appears to have an improved level of interest coming out of it.
Marks, who was offered during the last weekend visit, gave some insight into the latest offer from the Irish. He is one of the big risers at defensive line in the class and has a solid early impression of Notre Dame.
The city of Chicago boasts a lot of talent in the 2025 recruiting class. There might not be a more upside player than Chicago (Ill.) Simeon defensive end Christopher Burgess. The local pass rusher continues to be high on Notre Dame, especially since they are prioritizing him.
There were a trio of talented safeties in the 2025 recruiting class who visited last weekend. North Carolina star JaDon Blair, Florida defender Ivan Taylor and Connecticut standout Ethan Long. Notre Dame came out of the visit in a good position with each player to varying degrees.
RECRUITING UPDATES
Here are the latest stories on Notre Dame commits and key targets.
Over the last few days, I have had the chance to speak with Milford (Conn.) Brunswick Head Coach Wayne McGillicuddy about two key Notre Dame targets. One of them is Ethan Long, who has some outstanding upside at the safety position in the 2025 class.
I also had the chance to sit down with 2025 Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman wide receiver Derek Meadows, who is a priority player for the Irish. He is continuing to build a great bond with the Irish program.
When you talk underrated 2025 recruits, there might not be a bigger one than Artesia (Calif.) Junipero Serra safety Tre’ Harrison. Notre Dame has gotten on Harrison early in the process, which will matter tremendously when he begins to really blow up as a recruit.
Continuing the senior season previews for Notre Dame commits, 2024 Clearwater (Fla.) Academy International defensive tackle Sean Sevillano Jr., is ready for a massive final campaign. He has also become a tremendous recruiter for the 2024 class since committing.
