Notre Dame Recruiting Roundup - January 29th

It’s an open period, which means coaches have been out and about on the recruiting trail the last couple of weeks. That is going to continue, making for an extremely busy time. With the Notre Dame coaches visiting various schools all over the country, there is plenty of recruiting news to keep in mind.

Here is the latest recruiting news for Notre Dame over the last week. It doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

RECENT RECRUITING NEWS

It was a busy week for Notre Dame recruiting, which included the coaches traveling all over the country to the schools of some of the top recruits in the 2025 and 2026 recruiting classes. In those travels, there were several offers extended and players added to the 2025 board.

One name to know is 2025 Rabun Gap (Ga.) Nacoochee School linebacker Antoine Deslauriers. The talented defender is one of the biggest risers in the 2025 class recently. Deslauriers brings a very unique background, now turning into a very unlikely superstar.

During an interview with Irish Breakdown, Deslauriers also gave a glimpse into his recruitment. That includes his early relationship with Notre Dame.

Over the last few weeks, we have seen the 2025 wide receiver board begin to reshape for the Irish. There are several talented playmakers who have been added to the board, presenting a ton of options. No matter what the combination ends up looking like, the potential is really exciting.

One of those wide receivers who was added to the board recently is 2025 Greensboro (N.C.) Dudley star Nasir Newkirk. The 6-2, 185-pound pass catcher went in depth on his early relationship with Notre Dame.

Even though the Irish already have two running backs committed in the 2025 class, the staff is still pursuing Shreveport (Louis.) Calvary Baptist standout James Simon. They stopped by his school recently, which made a big impression on Simon. He went in depth on their continued relationship.

For the first time, elite 2026 Newbury Park (Calif.) High School star 2026 quarterback Brady Smigiel visited Notre Dame last weekend for Junior Day. The 6-4, 205-pound passer recapped that first trip.

Arguably the biggest target to visit Notre Dame last weekend was 2025 Geneva (Ill.) Community wide receiver Talyn Taylor. He is a player that the Irish staff has been high on for a long time. Getting him back to South Bend was massive.

RECRUIT INTERVIEWS

In the past, Irish Breakdown has had a various recruit’s parents on to give their perspective into the process and Notre Dame. Ike and Danielle Taylor recently joined the podcast to give their perspective on their son Ivan Taylor, who is an elite safety in the 2025 recruiting class. Notre Dame was his second home in the end.

During Junior Day, Notre Dame welcomed back 11 of their 14 recruits in the 2025 class. Several of them recapped their return trips and expectations for the Irish 2025 group, including running back Justin Thurman, defensive tackle Davion Dixon, cornerback Cree Thomas and safety Ethan Long.
