Winning streak snapped.

After picking up their fifth straight victory on Sunday to complete the sweep over Houston, Oklahoma returned to action on Tuesday night against Wichita State for a midweek road tilt.

Despite entering the night scoring runs at an extremely high clip for the better part of three weeks, the Sooners (11-6) offense was kept under wraps by the Shockers (9-7) in this one as WSU secured the win 6-2.

In the midweek matchup, Skip Johnson elected to deploy the opener strategy going with right-handed reliever Carson Atwood (0-2) to start the game before turning to left-hander Braden Carmichael.

Atwood didn’t have his best stuff on Tuesday, as Wichita State was able to scratch across two runs against him in his lone inning to snag a quick 2-0 lead.

That remained the score into the fourth, at which point the Shockers would double their lead on RBI singles from Chuck Ingram and David Herring.

Oklahoma put together a bit of a rally in the sixth, with Rocco Garza-Gongora and Diego Muniz each cashing in with two-out RBI singles to cut the lead in half at 4-2.

But, unfortunately for the Sooners, they were unable to move any closer despite loading the bases later in the frame.

Missed opportunities were the story of the night for OU, as they left eight runners on base and came up empty in multiple key spots with a chance to do some serious damage on the scoreboard.

The failure to add on would immediately come back to bite the Sooners, as Ingram connected on a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning to put the WSU lead right back to four runs at 6-2.

That would go on to be the final score after the Shockers bullpen shut out OU in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings.

The loss snaps a five-game winning streak for Oklahoma and is just their second in the last 11 games.

Looking to bounce back, the Sooners return home for the start of Big 12 play against No. 13 TCU in the first of a three-game set on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. at L. Dale Mitchell Park in Norman.
