Mark Kingston Gives Latest Injury Report Ahead Of Tennessee Series

When it comes to South Carolina's Baseball program and the injuries they've sustained over the course of the season, it's the same story, but a different day. Multiple players in both South Carolina's pitching staff and batting have been battered and bruised over the course of SEC play and that's no different heading into the final regular season series of the season against the Tennessee Volunteers, a series that suddenly now holds significant weight regarding the Gamecocks postseason standing.
Here's what Mark Kingston said about the injured players in question:
RHP Will Sanders: Won't pitch this weekend, but Kingston is hopeful that in a week or two, he'll be getting in a position where he can help the team.
RHP Eli Jerzembeck: Out for the rest of the season.
INF Will McGillis: Got an x-ray and despite fears that he rebroke the bone in his forearm, that is not the case. Probably needs some time to rest and let it settle down, but it's not a season-ending injury.
RHP Chris Veach: Day-to-day with a hip injury, but it's not expected to keep him out of action this weekend.
Regarding players like third baseman Talmadge LeCroy and shortstop Braylen Wimmer, Kingston admitted that both guys are still dealing with the remnants of their hamstring issues they suffered a few weeks ago.
"They're fighting, they know the situation we're in, they know we need them. We're not at full capacity, the guys with the hamstrings are still protecting their hamstrings, but they're tough kids, they're winners, they wanna be out there. They know we need them."
The six-year head man was also asked about the possibility of Wimmer playing in the field against the Vols, and used the question to make a point about how the Gamecocks are taking a long-term approach when it comes down to their decision-making process.
"We've gotta target 16 days from today and make sure that we have the team we wanna put out there on the field when there's only 64 teams left playing, we need to try to have the best team we could have out there. So we just have to make decisions with that in mind, and there's gonna be some short-term decisions, but also some big picture decisions."
