For a good portion of the past six months, Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks were in a good position with 2024 defensive lineman Justin Greene. Having offered the Lawrenceville, GA native back in May of 2022, Greene made his way over to Columbia on four different occasions, the most he's made to any school throughout his recruitment to this point.

In the past couple of months, however, a significant development took place in Justin's recruitment, the home-state Georgia Bulldogs began to pursue the Mountain View High School product to a more substantial degree. Fast forward to this past Tuesday, culminating in Greene committing to Georgia. While things can always change before signing day, it seems like Justin's commitment will stick, so with this in mind, where do the Gamecocks go from here?

Well, in terms of prospects on their board that fit a mold similar to Justin Greene, only one prospect meets the criteria: New Jersey native Jordan Thomas. One key aspect makes Jordan and Justin similar prospects: both can play on the interior and on the edge of the defensive line. It's a luxury that only some programs enjoy in terms of their personnel, but if South Carolina wants to contend with teams like Georgia in the future, they have to get defensive linemen that possess multi-faceted skillsets. Jordan Thomas fits that bill, being a prospect that plays in a defense that utilizes multiple fronts and moves him around on the line of scrimmage, something South Carolina defensive coordinator Clayton White likes to do in his scheme.

The good news for Carolina is that Thomas is a prospect that's shown mutual interest in the Gamecocks, having taken two visits to the program this year. His most recent visit came back on April 15th for the Gamecocks' annual Garnet and Black Spring game, and Jordan plans to be back in town for an official visit on the weekend of June 23rd-25th. On this visit, he and South Carolina's new interior defensive line coach Travian Robertson will be able to chat in person for the first time, as Jimmy Lindsey left the Gamecocks in late April to take the same role at LSU.
