Is Josiah Thompson South Carolina's To Lose?

Speculation that Josiah Thompson could be committing to South Carolina's Football program is at an all-time high thanks to a visit and subsequent tweets.

Optimism in South Carolina's recruiting department has been riding high this off-season, and for a good reason, as the Gamecocks have been on a tear, landing multiple big recruits such as Nyckoles Harbor and Kam Pringle in the past few months. Though those commitments were significant for the program, they might be adding another big piece to their 2024 recruiting soon.

Josiah Thompson, an offensive tackle from Dillon, South Carolina, has been trending toward South Carolina for quite a while. With speculation running rampant amongst both fans and recruiting pundits that the fifth-ranked offensive tackle in his class will be heading to Columbia, On3's Chad Simmons reported on Tuesday morning that Josiah Thompson informed him of his plans to commit on April 11th at 9 am at a ceremony held at Dillion High School.

Speculation started early last week that a commitment date could be coming when Josiah Thompson posted a cryptic tweet stating that he had come down to a final decision. While this may not seem like it points to one particular team, Thompson tweeted this the night after a visit to Columbia to be with the team.

Though Thompson's tweet left many fans thinking South Carolina is his future home, Offensive Lines Coach Lonnie Teasley added more fuel to the fire. The same day Thompson posted the tweet mentioned earlier, Teasley also tweeted a video of a lion, an homage to Thompson's nickname Big Cat.

The speculation surrounding Josiah peaked this past weekend when Head Coach Shane Beamer posted his synonymous "Welcome Home" tweet, which included a pic of the words "Welcome Home" written into the sand at a beach. Though it is slightly different from his typical commitment post, one could assume that Beamer and his staff have landed a prospect from the class of 2024.

Although it is all still speculation, many people associated with the Gamecock feel fully confident the offensive tackle will dawn garnet and black threads in 2024, which would only add to what could be another top flight offensive line class for South Carolina.
