South Carolina Football: National Signing Day Preview
It has been a whirlwind seven months for Shane Beamer, the assistant coaches, and the recruiting staff in South Carolina's football program. They've hosted countless visitors, fended off strong competition to land the nation's best, and gotten off to a rocket start with the 2024 recruiting class.
Today, the Gamecocks get to put a bow on one of their best recruiting classes in nearly a decade, and one that could be even better before the day comes to a close.
Which 2023 targets or commits should Gamecock fans keep an eye on as South Carolina nears the finish line for this current cycle?
Nyckoles Harbor
Harbor is one of the top overall prospects in the country remaining on the board and is someone that Beamer and the staff have had their eye on for quite some time now. The superstar athlete is looking to play football and run track at the next level and has whittled his recruitment down to just a few remaining schools, one of which is South Carolina.
Current and future Gamecocks', including one Spencer Rattler, have almost seemingly led the charge in recruiting Harbor, as he's set to announce his final decision tomorrow at around 1 pm ET on ESPN.
Zavion Hardy
Hardy is a prospect to watch for reasons differing from Harbor, as he's already committed to the South Carolina Gamecocks and has been in the fold since August. In the past six weeks, however, there's been new developments regarding Hardy's potential to sign with South Carolina. He ran into some issues with the NCAA Clearinghouse in the early national signing day period, and now, according to his high school coach, could be heading to junior college.
This wasn't stated as a guarantee, and it doesn't mean the Gamecocks couldn't loop back around with Hardy down the road, but it would take some of the luster off this defensive line haul should Zavion not sign with South Carolina at 9 am ET on Wednesday morning.
Elijah Caldwell
Caldwell should have the least drama-filled signing ceremony on Wednesday. He committed to South Carolina this past Thursday and likely won't pull any surprise flip when he makes it official. There's been no report or social media post regarding when Caldwell will sign his national letter of intent.
