After dropping its first Big 12 series of the season to Oklahoma, TCU baseball returned to the win column on Tuesday with a 7-0 win over Abilene Christian. Freshman lefty Chase Hoover got the start for the Frogs and earned the first win of his career.

Hoover pitched for seven innings on Tuesday night and allowed 2 runs and no hits and struck out 4 batters in the dominant performance. Cohen Fesser pitched two innings in relief and allowed one hit and struck out 4 batters in two innings of action. It was a dominant day for a pitching staff that had allowed at least three runs in all of the last six games.

The offense also had a strong day, finishing with 7 runs on 9 hits. After a scoreless first two innings, Luke Boyers hit a solo home run to left field to give the Horned Frogs a lead that they would not surrender. Austin Davis followed Boyers’ lead and hit a solo shot of his own an inning later. Davis’ fourth inning homer ignited the offense. David Bishop sent a runner home with a fielder’s choice and Boyers struck again, hitting a two-run double to give TCU a 5-0 lead.

In the seventh inning, Cole Fontenelle reached base on an error that also sent Davis and Tre Richardson home to make it 7-0. Fontenelle got credit for one of the runs.

The Horned Frogs were desperately in need of a good performance after the club fell to 10-9 on the season. They will have another midweek opportunity on Wednesday night against Northwestern to earn a victory and go on their first winning streak since March 11-12 against San Diego.

TCU and Northwestern’s Wednesday night battle will begin at 6 pm and will be available to watch on ESPN+.
