Women's Basketball: Prince and TCU Garner Awards After Starting Season 13-0

Santa was not done delivering gifts to the TCU women's basketball team after his trip around the globe on Sunday night.
On Tuesday, TCU center Sedona Prince was named the Big 12 Player of the Week. This is the second time she has received this honor this season. Then, on Wednesday, the team was named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) National Team of the Week.
TCU is 13-0 on the season. The 13-game winning streak is not only the best start in program history but also the longest winning streak in program history. It also marks the first time TCU has gone undefeated in non-conference play.
Last week, the Frogs had victories over Omaha and Mount St. Mary's. They won these two games by an average of 46.5 points. TCU's 53-point margin of victory in its 87-34 defeat of Mount St. Mary's on December 22 was its largest in six seasons. The 34 points surrendered were tied for the seventh-fewest in a game in the program's existence.
The Horned Frogs downed Omaha 96-56 two days earlier, setting a Big 12 era record for total rebounds (59) and rebounding margin (plus 32).
Prince averaged 24.0 points, 16.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists as the Horned Frogs completed a perfect non-conference season for the first time in school history. The graduate student pursuing a degree in Liberal Arts shot 70.0% from the floor, scoring 26 points in the 96-56 win over Omaha.
In the 87-34 win over Mount St. Mary's, Prince scored or assisted on 16 field goals, which was two more than Mount St. Mary's had in the entire game. She finished with 22 points off of 10-of-12 from the field and had a career-high six assists in the game.
In seven weeks of the season, this marked the second week Prince has received the Big 12 Player of the Week honor. She previously received it on November 27. Prince also joined Lauren Heard (2020) as one of just two Horned Frogs to be named Big 12 Player of the Week twice in the same season.
Her teammate Madison Conner was named Big 12 Player of the Week on November 13.
TCU is the only team in the league to have three Big 12 Player of the Week honors this season. Texas' Rori Harmon has received the honor twice (December 4 and December 18). Kansas State's Ayoka Lee has also received the honor twice (November 20 and December 18).
Next up: TCU opens up Big 12 Conference play on Saturday when they host the BYU Cougars (10-3). The game is 4 p.m. and can be seen on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
