TCU Men’s Tennis Advances to ITA Indoor Semifinals

The No. 2 TCU men’s tennis team (8-0) is one step closer to defending their two-time ITA Indoor National Championship after they defeated the No. 10 seed Texas A&M Aggies 4-2 in the quarterfinal dual inside the UTSA Billy Jean King National Tennis Center in New York. TCU has now won 33 indoor matches in a row and 11 straight ITA Indoor National matches.
The Horned Frogs, winners of the 2022 and 2023 ITA Indoor National Championships, advanced to the semifinal match against No 6 seed Wake Forest. That dual will be played at Columbia University on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. CT.
"What a battle. The Frogs showed so much character," said head coach David Roditi after the dual. "Texas A&M came out and just absolutely blistered us. They got on top of us in doubles, they came out firing, but our guys put their heads down and got to work. Unbelievable resilience to come back and win. Final Four tomorrow indoors.
Doubles Play – Texas A&M Won
Texas A&M won the doubles point. It was only the second time this season that TCU did not win the point.
- Jake Fearnley and Jack Pinnington lost their set 6-1 on Court Two.
- The No. 20 duo of Duncan Chan and Lui Maxted lost their set 6-4 on Court Three. It was their first loss as partners in the dual season.
Singles Play – TCU won 4-1
TCU once again proved that its singles players are the best and deepest in collegiate tennis. The Frogs seemed unaffected by having to play from behind after losing the doubles point. They had several dominating singles performances to capture the win.
- No. 62 Fearnley got the Frogs on the board first with a straight-set win 6-3, 6-2 on Court One.
- No. 4 Pinnington put TCU ahead at 2-1 after winning his match in straight set 6-2, 6-4 on Court Two,
- It took a second-set tiebreaker on Court Four, but No. 39 Sebastian Gorzny won his match on Court Four 6-4, 7-6 (8-6). This put the Frogs up 3-1.
- The Aggies earned another point as Giulio Perego defeated Pedro Vives on Court Three 6-3, 7-6 (7-2).
- For the second straight day, it was Tomas Jirousek on Court Six who clinched the dual for TCU with a 6-4, -6-4 win.
- Lui Maxted, playing on Court Five, was tied 4-4 in the third set when the dual was clinched.
Next up: The Horned Frogs will play No. 6 Wake Forest in the semifinals of the ITA Indoor National Championships at 2:30. CST on Sunday, February 18. If the Frogs defeat the Demon Deacons, they will play in the national championship game on Monday against either No. 1 Ohio State or No. 4 Virginia.
