The Tennessee Volunteers have wrapped up their second scrimmage of fall camp, and the big talk has been around the quarterback battle. While there has been plenty to discuss, fans and reporters have been quick to share their final predictions.

That includes Chris Low from On3, who made a post on X discussing things.

"Vols getting closer to opening the season with their first true freshman QB since Brent Schaeffer in 2004. Schaeffer was the first true freshman right out of high school to start at QB in the SEC since freshman eligibility was reinstated in 1973. So some heady stuff for Brandon," Chris Low said following the second scrimmage on Saturday.

While this is a pretty cool statistic to look at, the two quarterbacks would be at different stages in their careers even though both players were technically true freshmen.

Brandon is entering his true freshman season as a proven high school veteran and arguably the best player in the country, let alone the best quarterback in the class of 2026. He was previously viewed as the No. 1 player in the country, which just goes to show the level of talent that he is. When it comes to Brent Schaeffer, he was still talented entering college, which is why he ultimately won the starting job in 2004; however, he wasn't up to par when it comes to the talent that Brandon had at the high school level.

The talented quarterback started the first season with the Vols, and he had some up-and-down moments. He would later find his way to Ole Miss, which would be the place he played the majority of his snaps. He was a bit up and down there too, which puts him in a different conversation from the expectations that the newest true freshman quarterback has entering the 2026 season.

Brandon will be asked to have a huge season if he becomes the starter for the Tennessee program; however, he still has to win this job, as he has yet to be named the clear starter. He is currently battling George MacIntyre, a returning gunslinger who is set for his second season with the college football program.

No matter who the Vols select, the Tennessee fans will be sure to cheer, but from the recent statement that Low has made, along with the many predictions that he has released, it seems reasonable that the Vols could be trusting in the former North Carolina High School star to take the snaps in game one as the starter for the program.
