Since head coach Josh Heupel took over, the Tennessee Volunteers have been preparing for the 2025 recruiting cycle. They're off to a strong start.

When he took the job, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel faced an uphill battle on the recruiting trail. The NCAA was investigating the football program for recruiting violations committed by the previous coaching staff, not to mention the Vols' lackluster recent history on the gridiron. Heupel and company had a full calendar year to recruit prospects beginning with the 2023 cycle, and they've been improving consistently since.

The coaches knew early that the in-state crop in the 2025 recruiting cycle would be one of the most talented groups in recent state history. They began working hard on several top 2025 targets early and have landed most of them thus far. Brentwood Academy quarterback George MacIntyre, Baylor School wide receiver Cameron Sparks, and Ensworth Academy defensive lineman Ethan Utley were three of their first targets in this class. Now, MacIntyre and Utley are committed to the Vols, with Sparks making a round of official visits before announcing his decision over the next few months.

We're in March, so there's still plenty of time before the initial flurry of commitments in the summer months, and even further away from early national signing day. However, Tennessee still has many top targets on the board that could push their class from a fringe top-10 group closer to the elite top-5 range. Nothing in recruiting is a certainty, but they are moving in the right direction.
