UCLA Basketball: Bruins Losing Key Guard to Transfer Portal

UCLA basketball guard Will McClendon is reportedly entering the transfer portal after playing two seasons for the Bruins, via Eric Bossi of 247 Sports.

The report comes after former USC Trojan Kobe Johnson and former Louisville guard Skyy Clark announced they were transferring to the Bruins over the last two days. Both Johnson and Clark are expected to become key contributors for the Bruins next year as they look to rebound from a shaky 2023-2024 season.

McClendon was a four-star guard coming out of high school with two years of eligibility remaining. The 6-foot-3 guard is set to leave after averaging 4.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game while shooting 33.9% from the field. His time on the court rose from 9.3 minutes to 21.1 minutes his sophomore season, but McClendon was unable to become a major contributor for the team.

McClendon had to come back from an unfortunate knee injury during his time at UCLA, after sustaining a torn ACL in September of 2021 that caused him to miss the entire 2021-2022 season.

He will now look for an opportunity on another team. Outside of McClendon, UCLA guard Ilane Fibleuil also entered the transfer portal. The transfer portal window began on March 18, and will end on May 1.
