Class of 2024 WR Gatlin Bair Picks Up Offer From UCLA Football

In this story:
Recruiting season is heating back up, and the Bruins kicked things off by offering one of the West's top pass-catchers.
UCLA football sent an offer to class of 2024 wide receiver Gatlin Bair, the Burley High School (ID) product announced Friday on Twitter. Bair was in Westwood for a visit over the weekend, even though the Bruins were not among the top 11 he unveiled back in December.
At the time, Bair marked Michigan, Boise State, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Washington, Nebraska, Utah, BYU, Colorado, Oregon and Stanford as his semifinalists. Bair also had offers from Cal, Utah State, Washington State, Idaho and Idaho State, and he has since added ones from Miami (FL), Texas and Texas A&M.

Given how stingy UCLA has been with high school offers under coach Chip Kelly, the staff likely wouldn't have hosted him for a visit or made him an offer if they believed they were completely out of the race for Bair's impending commitment.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound prospect racked up 1,073 yards and 18 touchdowns on 73 receptions across nine games at Burley Senior last fall, earning First Team All-State honors in the process. Bair cashed in on that breakout season by picking up an invitation to the All-American Bowl in San Antonio next January.
Bair also competes in track & field, following in the footsteps of his two older brothers, who are decathletes at Mississippi State and Arkansas, respectively. Both brothers – Jaxon and Peyton – completed their two-year LDS missions before becoming full-time NCAA student-athletes, and his parents both did track & field at BYU.
Gatlin Bair is a four-star recruit, according to 247Sports, Rivals, ESPN and On3. In the 247Sports Composite, Bair ranks No. 1 in Idaho, No. 32 among wide receivers and No. 186 overall in his class.
Of the five class of 2024 wide receivers UCLA has extended offers to, Bair ranks third. The nation's No. 7 wideout, Ryan Pellum, put the Bruins in his top 10 back on Dec. 31, and while 12th-ranked Nick Marsh remains verbally committed to Michigan State, he is supposedly still going to take additional visits before signing next school year.
UCLA has two commits for its 2024 recruiting class thus far – four-star defensive back Khristian Dunbar Hawkins and three-star offensive lineman Joshua Glanz. With those two in-state prospects pledged to the Bruins, UCLA's class ranks No. 36 in the country and No. 4 in the Pac-12.
