The Bruins are going after one of the top graduate transfers on the market.

Rutgers transfer guard Cam Spencer is planning to visit UCLA men's basketball, Stadium's Jeff Goodman reported Monday evening. Miami (FL), UConn and Oklahoma are the other schools still in the running for Spencer.

According to Adam Zagoria of NJ.com and The New York Times, Spencer is "not rushing a decision," implying that the sharpshooter won't be announcing a commitment anytime soon.

Spencer entered the transfer portal on May 19, marking the second time he's been in the portal. Last offseason, the 6-foot-4, 205-pound Spencer transferred from Loyola Maryland to Rutgers.

Coming out of high school, Spencer's only offer was from the Greyhounds, and he was not ranked or rated as a national prospect.

Spencer started off as a sixth man at Loyola Maryland, before eventually growing into a full-time starter his junior year. Spencer averaged 18.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.3 steals in 36.9 minutes per game while shooting 46.8% from the field, 35.3% from deep and 85.8% from the free throw line that season en route to All-Patriot League First Team honors.

UCLA assistant coach Ivo Simovic was on the staff at Loyola Maryland the same years as Spencer, but they both went their separate ways last spring – Simovic came out to Westwood and Spencer went to Piscataway, New Jersey.

In his lone season at Rutgers, Spencer averaged 13.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.0 steals per game on .444/.434/.894 shooting splits while starting all 34 of his appearances with the resurgent Scarlet Knights.

UCLA has reeled in one transfer so far this offseason, picking up a commitment from Utah guard Lazar Stefanovic in April. Before that, though, the last transfer the Bruins added was Rutgers center Myles Johnson in 2021.

The fact that UCLA's staff is pursuing a transfer at this point in the offseason could be a sign that another scholarship is set to open up.

If center Adem Bona and guard Jaylen Clark withdraw from the NBA Draft and Aday Mara and their other international target commit, the Bruins will hit the scholarship cap of 13. As a result, there would only be room for Spencer on the roster if one of those moves falls through.

The deadline for Bona and Clark to lock in their decisions is Thursday, meaning the Bruins will be getting clarity on their scholarship distribution by the end of the week.
