UCLA Football: Scouting 2024 Offensive Tackle Commit Joshua Glanz

We broke down his Hudl film to better understand what UCLA is getting in the 6-7 So-Cal recruit

Eastlake (Chula Vista, CA) 2024 offensive tackle Joshua Glanz committed to UCLA back in January. He is part of a 2024 UCLA recruiting class that 247 Sports currently ranks as 53rd best in the country. He was one of the first commits in this cycle for UCLA and is joined by 12 other recruits, the most notable being offensive weapon Derrick McFall out of Texas.

AllBruins.com took a look at his Hudl film to better understand what the Bruins saw in Glanz before offering him, and to loosely guess how soon he could make an impact on the Bruin offensive line as they enter the Big 10 next season.

Glanz lists himself at a whopping 6-7, 295-pounds. He’s already the size of some of the largest offensive linemen in the NFL.

As far as athleticism, Glanz doesn’t jump off the page with his twitch or his balance, but does any offensive lineman? His pad level is a concern, but that’s something that can be coached up. He does show an ability to be mobile, meaning the Eastlake coaching staff trusts him enough to ask him to pull across the formation and be the lead blocker on outside zone runs to the edge.

The most attractive thing, we think, about Glanz is that not only can he get out in space and be that lead blocker, but he’s also super aggressive in pass protection. The combination of those traits and his size is a huge plus at the next level.

Glanz tends to lean a bit forward in his pass sets, something that elite edge rushers will notice and exploit at the next level. But this, too, is coachable.

Instinctually, Glanz is a mauler. He stated his desire to physically dominate his opponents in an interview on the Prep Pigskin Report YouTube channel. This mindset is something that all offensive line coaches try to instill in their players.

So how polished is Glanz as a prospect? Well, with the lack of senior season film, it’s difficult for us to make any assumptions about how he progressed from his junior year to his senior year. It is rare for offensive linemen to jump from high school to college and contribute right away.

Without being able to scout Glanz’s senior season film, we suspect he will need a year or two to develop under OL coach Tim Drevno before he earns significant playing time.

All in all, Glanz has a very high ceiling as a prospect. He is a finisher and punishes his opponent every chance he can get. A true tone-setter for Eastlake High School. The Bruins got a good one with Glanz.
