UCLA Women's Basketball Earns No. 4 Seed in NCAA Tournament

The postseason is set to roll on in Westwood.
UCLA women's basketball (25-9, 11-7 Pac-12) earned a No. 4 seed in the 2023 NCAA tournament, as was revealed during Sunday nights's selection show. The Bruins will face off against No. 13 seed Sacramento State (25-7, 13-5 Big Sky) in the opening round on Saturday at Pauley Pavilion.
No. 5 seed Oklahoma and No. 12 seed Portland are the other teams coming down to Westwood for the first weekend of March Madness.
After closing the regular season on a 5-2 stretch, UCLA won its first three games of the Pac-12 tournament. The Bruins lost to Washington State in the conference final, but they strung together a strong enough resume throughout the year to get another shot at postseason stardom.
UCLA entered Sunday ranked No. 22 in the NET, a five-component metric designed by the NCAA to replace the RPI as the primary sorting tool for evaluating teams five years ago. The Bruins also ranked No. 25 in the RPI.
South Carolina, Indiana, Stanford and Virginia Tech were the four No. 1 seeds, with the Gamecocks sharing one of the two Greenville regions with the Bruins. Maryland is the No. 2 seed and Notre Dame is the No. 3 seed, while Pac-12 foe Arizona also made it as the region's No. 7 seed.
If UCLA was to make it to the Sweet 16, it would likely face off against South Carolina. The Bruins lost to the Gamecocks 73-64 on the road back on Nov. 27, but they did hold a lead in the fourth quarter of that contest.
Of course, UCLA first needs to get through Sacramento State in order to set up a rematch with South Carolina. The Hornets won the Big Sky tournament on Wednesday after taking down Northern Arizona 76-63, and they come into the NCAA tournament on a nine-game winning streak.
