USC Trojans Recruiting Class Gets a Boost With New Commit

In this story:
The success on the recruiting trail continues for coach Lincoln Riley and the USC Trojans. On Thursday, the Trojans landed Hamilton Christian Academy ATH Javon Vital Jr. over the Ole Miss Rebels, Kentucky Wildcats, and Houston Cougars.
The 5-foot-9, 185-pound ATH out of Lake Charles, Louisiana, is rated as a three-star recruit per 247Sports. Vital is listed as a running back and has proven to be a dangerous returner. Vital is also rated as the No. 17 overall player in the state of Louisiana, per 247Sports.

According to 247 Sports, Vital has experienced reps as a quarterback and a wide receiver. His athleticism will fit right in with coach Lincoln Riley’s high-powered offense, starting in the 2027 season.
How Commitment Of Vital Impacts USC Trojans Recruiting Ranking

Vital becomes the ninth commit of USC’s 2027 recruiting class, which has recently seen a major boost in its recent ranking. With the commitment of Vital to the Trojans, USC's 2027 recruiting class ranking is now at No. 4, per 247Sports' 2027 Overall Football Team Rankings.
The three teams ahead of the Trojans in the 2027 recruiting class rankings include the Ohio State Buckeyes (No. 3), Texas A&M Aggies (No. 2), and Oklahoma Sooners (No. 1). With nine commits, there is so much more time for the Trojans to chase down Oklahoma to earn the No. 1 ranking for the second consecutive recruiting cycle.
USC's Recent Success On Recruiting Trail

Alongside Vital’s commitment to the Trojans, USC has recently seen success on the recruiting trail with the addition of Cathedral Catholic ATH Honor Fa’alave Johnson and Mater Dei cornerback Danny Lang, both of whom are rated as four-stars, per 247Sports.
The Trojans also recently flipped Servite High School offensive tackle Drew Fielder from the Oregon Ducks as a part of their 2027 recruiting class. After securing the No. 1-ranked 2026 recruiting class, the Trojans look to carry that momentum into the 2027 cycle, and the commitment of Vital only boosts their success.
While Vital isn’t set to arrive in Los Angeles until the 2027 season, Trojan fans are hoping that USC’s recent success on the recruiting trail can help the program make the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history this upcoming season.
Despite all the recruiting wins, it’s time for USC to back up its talent on the field, and so far, that hasn’t happened under Riley. The Trojans have fallen short of the CFP on two separate occasions. That could all change with this upcoming season and with the arrival of the 2027 recruiting class that Vital is a part of.
