Junior stars: Top class of 2021 girls basketball players in L.A. City Section
With the 2019-2020 high school basketball season in Southern California coming to a close, Scorebook Live is taking a look at the top girls players from each class.
Below is a list of the top juniors (class of 2021) in the L.A. City Section. The list is in alphabetical order of the schools.
TOP JUNIORS IN LA CITY SECTION GIRLS BASKETBALL
BELL EAGLES
G Brissa Castillo
Castillo led Bell in scoring with 13.4 PPG.
BIRMINGHAM PATRIOTS
G/F Bita Hashemi
Hashemi averaged a team-high 12 PPG playing one through three for Birmingham. She was named Second Team All-West Valley League.
SG/SF Andrea Salazar
Salazar averaged over 10 PPG for Birmingham.
PF/C Jazmyn Washington
Washington averaged 7.3 PPG in addition to leading the Patriots in rebounds and blocks. She was named First Team All-West Valley League.
PF/C Lily Ramos
Ramos averaged 8.6 points and 4.8 rebounds on 51% shooting from the field.
CENTRAL CITY VALUE JAGUARS
C/PF Alix Alvarado
Alvarado averaged a double-double and multiple blocks a game as an undersized big for the Division 3 champion, and also led the team in field goal percentage. Three of her teammates, Kimberly Ruano, Bryana Martinez, and Jennyfer Pena were also in strong consideration.
CRENSHAW COUGARS
PG/SG Ameerah Ali
In 18 games, Ali averaged 18.5 points, 3.4 assists, and 4.7 steals per game for the fifth-place finisher in the section.
EL CAMINO REAL CONQUISTADORS
SG/PG Jackie Privado
Privado was second in scoring and assists on Open Division semifinalist El Camino Real, and made First Team All-West Valley League.
SG Payton Love
Love averaged 7.7 points and a team-high 2.2 steal per game. She was named Second Team All-West Valley League.
C/F Jaylee Hall
Hall was a strong interior defender and led ECR in rebounds.
FREMONT PATHFINDERS
C/PF Alisha Richie
Averaging over 15 points and 15 rebounds per game for the Pathfinders, Richie was one of the top players in all the lower Divisions (Division 4).
GRANADA HILLS CHARTER HIGHLANDERS
PG Taylor Yoshino
Yoshino led the City Section's third place finisher, Granada Hills Charter, in assists.
SG Colleen Navasartian
Navasartian was named Second Team All-West Valley League.
SG/SF Leena Vo
Vo averaged 7.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and a team-high 3.2 steals per game, and was named Second-Team All-League.
HAMILTON YANKEES
PG Sherisse Chensam
Chensam was named First Team All-Western League.
SG/SF Sydney Blevins
Blevins was second in scoring on Open Division runner-up Hamilton and made First Team All-Western League.
C/PF Trinity Conner
Conner made Second Team All-League.
HARBOR TEACHER MONARCHS
SG/SF Martha Avila
One of the top players in Division 2, Avila averaged over 18 PPG for the Monarchs.
KING/DREW
F/C Ogechi Nekes
Nekes was named First Team All-Coliseum League.
LEGACY TIGERS
SG Jocelyn Lopez
Lopez averaged 8.2 PPG for the Open Division selectee.
LOS ANGELES CES UNICORNS
G/F Aliyah Pollard
Pollard was arguably the best player in Division 2 and top producer across the board for the division champion Unicorns. She was named First Team All-Western League.
NARBONNE GAUCHOS
PG Tiah Sherman
Sherman led Narbonne with 4.8 APG and 4.1 SPG per game last season in addition to 8.3 PPG.
SG Brandy Castaneda
Castaneda averaged 10.4 points and 2.5 steals per game for the Open Division's sixth place finisher.
SF/PF Angel Nwosu
Nwosu was the MVP runner-up in the Marine League.
PALISADES DOLPHINS
PG Alexis Pettis
Pettis was named First Team All-Western League.
SG/SF Sammie Arnold
Arnold averaged 11 PPG for the Open Division champion and was named First Team All-Western League.
PF Rose Morris
Morris was the starting power forward and a strong defender for the City Section champion.
C/PF Ivy Scott
Scott made Second Team All-Western League.
TAFT TOREADORS
SF/PF Gaby Quintana
Quintana led Taft in points and steals last season and was named First Team All-West Valley League.
VENICE GONDOLIERS
G/F Riley Horita
Horita was named Second Team All-Western League.
