Look: De La Salle defeats St. Mary's-Stockton behind running attack, defense

CONCORD, CALIFORNIA — There wasn't much that separated the football teams at De La Salle and St. Mary's on Friday night.
The host Spartans ran off 49 plays and gained 301 yards. St. Mary's had 52 plays for 296.
De La Salle made just a few less mistakes, especially along penalty lines as it held on for a decisive 24-10 victory at Owen Owens Stadium on the campus of the Spartans. Speedy quarterback Toa Faavae had an 84-yard touchdown run en route to 140 yards rushes on just seven carries. Dominic Kelley had his second straight 100-yard outing with 20 carries for 102 yards and two touchdowns as the Spartans avenged a 45-35 loss to the Rams from a year ago.
Samson Hunkin did his part for St. Mary's completing 14 of 26 for 197 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed 14 times for 85 yards. See game story
The Rams hurt themselves with 11 penalties for 74 yards to just five for 30 for De La Salle.
