Tyson Bonilla is a tough football player to stop.

The burly 6-foot, 180-pound senior quarterback for Wilcox is expected to be ball-handler first, then carrier, the passer third in the Chargers' split-back veer attack.

Through six games he's completed 61 percent of his 57 passes (less than 10 per game) for 424 yards and just two touchdowns.

Where he's particularly dangerous is faking handoffs and running as he did in a 45-14 win over Mountain View on Sept. 29.

He rushed 11 times for a season-high 208 yards and four touchdowns, giving him 760 yards and 10 TDs on the season.

His big performance landed Bonilla on an SBLive/Sports Illustrated weekly top performance list, where his numbers really soared.

Bonilla piled up more than 4,000 votes to edge Serra quarterback Maealiuaki Smith for 58.1 percent of the tallies to 35.4 for Smith.

That earned Bonilla the SBLive/Sports Illustrated Athlete of the Week for football players competing Sept. 28-30.
