Anthony Egan out as head football coach at Wesley Chapel
WESLEY CHAPEL, FLORIDA- One head coaching position in Pasco County was filled earlier this week, but another opened on Wednesday afternoon.
Anthony Egan confirmed with SBLive Sports Florida that he has been let go as the head football coach at Wesley Chapel High School. Egan spent seven seasons as the program’s leader, going 34-34 in his time with the Wildcats.
Egan, who was an offensive line coach at River Ridge before landing at Wesley Chapel, brought the Wildcats back to respectability during his time as lead man. The Wildcats went 5-5 three times, 6-4 twice and 7-2 once during Egan’s tenure, but last season proved to be the program’s first winless campaign since 2013.
Before Egan between 2008-2015, the school were above .500 once (2011, 6-4) through eight seasons. Below is Egan’s statement on his ouster as coach at Wesley Chapel. Wesley Chapel defeated Citrus 10-7 in last week’s spring football game.
I will no longer be the football coach at Wesley chapel high school… I will miss all the professional connections and my extended family in these boys… all the boys I coached became men and I’m so so proud of them and the fact they always did it the right way! pic.twitter.com/wKDYxnFE7O

Earlier this week, Sunlake High School filled its head coaching position with the hiring of former Gulf/Ridgewood head coach Jay Fulmer. Now Wesley Chapel becomes the latest opening, with Pasco High School also searching for its new head as Alphonso Freeney is leaving for Saks High School in Alabama.
