Jeremiah Rodriguez-Schwartz out at Wekiva as head football coach
Whether on his on accord or not, Jeremiah Rodriguez-Schwartz will not be back as Wekiva High School’s head football coach.
According to a report by the Orlando Sentinel’s J.C. Carnahan, the third-year head coach has been reassigned to a middle school and not welcomed back to finish out the remainder of the 2023 campaign.
Turns out now that Jeremiah Rodriguez-Schwartz will NOT be permitted to finish out the season at Wekiva. Bummer for the kids with all this back-and-forth stuff. Story is on the way. https://t.co/qsQ9UOGXS0

Rodriguez-Schwartz, according to the report last week was reassigned to a new job at a middle school but told the Sentinel that he was being pushed out. After an outcry by parents and the players, Rodriguez-Schwartz was initially told he’d be allowed to finish out the season with the Mustangs. He finished his Wekiva tenure with an overall record of 13-16.
That lasted all of 24 hours as Rodriguez-Schwartz was advised the offer to finish out the season was now off the table. Per the report, assistant coaches Lamarcus Jackson and Steve Brandenburg have been tasked to “assume the daily leadership duties” for the program moving forward in the final two regular season games.
The Mustangs are currently 4-4 on the season and are very much in the thick of things when it comes to qualifying for the Class 3M playoffs. This week’s game against Jones (4-3) has major postseason implications for Wekiva.
