Nasir Wyatt, nation's No. 1 linebacker, trims list to 8

Mater Dei (California) elite linebacker Nasir Wyatt has trimmed his list to eight

Mater Dei (California) star Nasir Wyatt is one of the top prospects in America.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound defender is rated the nation's No. 22 overall prospect and No. 1 linebacker in the class of 2025 and has already established himself as a quarterback's worst nightmare coming off the edge.

Given his size and sideline-to-sideline speed, perhaps it shouldn't come as a surprise that Wyatt has earned major scholarship offers from coast-to-coast.

On Wednesday, however, Wyatt cut his list down to eight semifinalists - Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas and USC:

While Wyatt's rare combination of size and speed allow him to be a versatile, adaptable piece of a front-seven, he is best suited as a bend-the-edge pass-rusher.

As a sophomore, the Mater Dei star registered 14 sacks and three forced fumbles, establishing himself as one of the nation's premier pass-rushers.

Given Wyatt's value at a premium position his recruitment is likely to garner plenty of buzz before it's all said and done.

For now, however, eight teams remain.
